The Bahrain Bay Master Plan is a visionary, mixed-use waterfront development designed to position Manama, Bahrain as a global hub for finance, hospitality, and urban living. Strategically located on a 450,000 square meter reclaimed site along the northern shoreline of the capital, the master plan integrates residential, commercial, retail, and hospitality components within a cohesive urban framework. Conceived by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), the plan is organized around a central waterway, creating a series of interconnected districts with high walkability, activated public realms, and waterfront promenades.
The layout is anchored by landmark developments such as the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay, Arcapita headquarters, and multiple high-rise residential towers, with provisions for cultural institutions, public plazas, and transit-oriented infrastructure. Designed with an emphasis on sustainability and long-term adaptability, Bahrain Bay introduces layered infrastructure, integrated stormwater management, and district-scale utility systems to support growth over time. The master plan embodies a contemporary vision for Gulf urbanism—balancing global investment standards with local identity, climate resilience, and a strong connection to the waterfront.
